Relating African Governments To The Tribal Wisdom of
The Dakota Indians

By BH OKOT
kampala
Uganda.

The tribal wisdom of the Dakota Indians, passed on from generation to generation, says that, "When you discover that you are riding a dead horse, the best strategy is to dismount."

However, most African governments employ more advanced strategies with 'dead horses' like;

1) Buying a stronger whip.
 2) Changing riders.
3) Appointing a committee to study the horse.
4) Arranging to visit other countries to see how other cultures ride dead horses.
5) Lowering the standards so that dead horses can be included.
6) Reclassifying the dead horse as living impaired.
7) Hiring outside contractors to ride the dead horse.
8) Harnessing several dead horses together to increase speed.
9) Providing additional funding and/or training to increase the dead horse's performance.
10) Doing a productivity study to see if lighter riders would improve the dead horse's performance.
11) Declaring that as the dead horse does not have to be fed, it is less costly, carries lower overhead and therefore contributes substantially more to the bottom line of the economy than do some other horses.
12) Rewriting the expected performance requirements
for all horses.
13) Promoting the dead horse to a supervisory position.

The Continent has struggled with making projects work. However,we keep making the same mistakes and less than half of them succeed. This article is to reawaken our governments to think outside the box.

REIGN OF TERROR

REIGN OF TERROR
Inspired by the tutorial-THE ENVIRONMENT

The trees sway in sorrow,
What means of survival should they borrow?
Should they just hide in a barrow,
Afraid of what will occur tomorrow?

The rivers have flown into a rage,
And are thirsty for revenge,
They condemn the man of this age,
Who fulfills them to the brim with sewage,
Is that what they teach in college?

Let's cry out for the ozone layer,
Gasps does she for lack of air.
She may even lack an heir,
For she was caught unawares,
with her bottom bare,
Her strength, no where,
And now her future is nuclear.

An age of error,
A time of fear,
The earth could tear,
But maybe that would be better,
Than Man's reign of terror!

The Bomb That Never Exploded!

PREAMBLE:
Wednesday, 21st May 2014: 1:30pm: Makerere University Main library, by far one of the biggest and oldest libraries in Africa. The largest in East africa.Makerere University in the best university in Saharan Africa and fourth best in Africa. Popularly referred to as the Ivory Tower of Africa. That is the stage of our piece.

THE AUTHOR
I am  a fourth year Engineering student, finalizing my course in the next fortnight.I am extremely ambitious and hopeful for the future for my family and my country.I would literally do anything for World Peace. I am Okot Boniface Henry.I am on the stage, watch my mind unfold with a heavy heart.

 WARNING
This extract is a true story!

THE PIECE
My eyes focused on a script,
As though my entire living depended on it.

My heart calmly beating,
In rhythm with my hopes so bright.

The other thousand souls nearby,
calm, quiet and flipping pages they were.
We must share the same dream for the future.
rebuild our dear nation so broken.

The sun is so bright,
It had been away for days
I love this day

But wait a second!
Bomb! Bomb!bomb!
The only scream my heart hears
My ears could feel the noise
A scuffle ensues!
Even the gods would run!

Here is our part,

Glued in the corner,
Transfixed by fear,
Of irrational things I cannot change,
As panic covers up my eyes I don't know what I see,
Start to shake, so want to run away,
Unable to move,
Escape is mercy,
Shaking incessantly,
Terror strikes,
Heart pounds,
Reaching for evasive breaths,
Unable to gasp,
I see souls so helpless,
flying from the highest of floors,
Then tears,
With tears relief apparent,
Tears bring mercy,
Escaped at last!
Quickly hunt for calmness and reason,

The strike of lightning is slow.

But wait a second,
Blood was the new paint,
Broken bones were the new exhibits,
Books once new,
now dirty floor carpet.

Police drags in,
A snail is faster.
The story so different,
No bomb,
Just a thief!

MY MESSAGE
 Terrorism is real.
 Keep Watch.
 Be your brothers keeper.
Our societies live in fear.
The one thing I am certain about is,
"After the rain, there is a rainbow"

Dedicated to the student who is in a critical condition at Mulago hospital, Kampala, Uganda owing to this incident.
Also dedicated to those in the fight against terrorism.

My Life Could Have Been Better

My life could have been better
had I a golden spoon with me

My life could have been better
had there been roses instead of guns to see

My life could have been better
had I been to the best learning school

My life could have been better
had I used hard work as my tool

My life could have been better
had I not fallen each time I went wrong

My life could have been better
had my life been long

My life could have been better
had I done something great

My life could have been better
had I been born on an auspicious date

But there is no time to repent
Because lots of time has already been spent
Its time to look ahead and move on
Its time to be positive...to take life along......
to get our lives back on song
